Bishops Stortford U14B 10 - 20 Wasps U14B

Preparation for the second league game of the season was quite unsettled with a long list of injuries and unavailabilities so in the end it was somehow reassuring to have everyone turn up on the day (huge thank you to all parents for their support and commitment).

Wasps Bs had at heart to erase their first defeat and started by applying exactly what was agreed before the game: free flowing rugby with plenty of passes and no excess of selfishness. Wasps were dominating and were creating opportunities with over 10 passes on each action. Captain and scrum half Joe showed the way in scoring the first try after a quick tap penalty. Bishop's reaction was immediate and created a few phases off the restart. After another quick tap penalty, their centre burst through our back line to equalize.

Wasps started then to calm the game down and exerted their dominance up front. Max burst off the back of the scrum as an experienced number 8 to bring us back ahead. Good pressure on their scrum allowed then Max to pick up and score to bring us to 5-15. Wasps were creating many chances, Eden and Lucas were charging forward with Lucas seeing a try justly disallowed for not grounding the ball. Joe and Nathan were combining and varying the attacks.

We were confident at half time and determined to push the pressure straight from the restart to kill the game off. Unfortunately, the opposite happen. A good line out combination, a few phases but runners going sideways and Wasps were quickly under pressure. BS turned the ball over and in a few quick passes, their full back ran through our defence to score and come back at 10-15. Nervousness started to appear, Bishop were running the ball around to their wings but great tackles by Ollie and Hugo were saving us from further damage. We were dominated but team spirit and unity were strong, the tackles were made.

We had to go back to their half which we eventually did. A big burst by Eden then Max picked off a 5m scrum to complete his hat trick. 10-20! This would be the final score with Wasps dominating the last 10 minutes to protect their win.

In the end a very good game of rugby to watch. Wasps really played as a team and got the reward, well done!
