Our very own Paul Rendall has passed away at the age of 69 after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year.
Nicknamed 'The Judge', Paul played his club rugby for Wasps FC throughout the ‘80s and was part of a formidable front row that included Jeff Probyn, Alan Isichei and Alan Symonds.
Paul made his England debut against Wales in the 1984 Five Nations at the age of 30. He played alongside duo Brian Moore and Jeff Probyn, in an England front row known for their uncompromising scrummaging. Soon after his debut Paul was chosen to tour South Africa with England. He won 28 caps for his country and played at the 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cups. He made his final England appearance in the 1991 World Cup pool match against Italy.
His nickname 'The Judge' was earned on his first tour when he served as judge at the players' "kangaroo court" and apportioned fines, a position he held on all subsequent tours. Paul was a character on and off the field, he always had words of wisdom, was great fun and a very special character that made everyone laugh. He will be very much missed by Wasps FC, the game and all who knew him.
The funeral will be Friday 14th July at 12pm at St Anthony RC Church, Farnham Rd, Slough SL2 3AE.
The family will then have a private burial service nearby, but all other mourners are welcome to attend the wake straight after the service at Slough RFC, Upton Court Rd, SL3 7LT.
