Giselle Mather Joins Wasps FC as Director of Rugby

Amateur Rugby club Wasps FC, based in West London, has appointed leading international rugby coach Giselle Mather.

She will commence her role on 1 November 2016.

Giselle has held a number of coaching roles including Head Coach of Wasps FC Ladies between 2001 and 2004, Giselle took them to back-to-back Premiership titles. She has recently guided the London Irish AASE Squad [Advanced Apprenticeship and Sporting Excellence] to being Plate Winners and South League Winners. As Backs Coach of the England Women’s Senior team, Mather lead them to a Six Nations Championship and a World Cup Runners-Up medal, while coaching the England U20 Women to three seasons unbeaten and back-to-back Nations Cup Titles

Giselle said, “To be back at Wasps Ladies at such a progressive time in women's rugby is a hugely exciting prospect for me. To help the current squad develop both individually and collectively and put Wasps Ladies firmly on the map as a place to play expansive, exciting and enjoyable rugby is a real privilege and an opportunity I am very much looking forward to."

She is the highest qualified female coach in the ladies game and her wealth of experience will provide our teams with world-class coaching. It is a first step in our project to regain our place at the very top of ladies rugby, her appointment kicks off our program to up-skill every coach and player across the wider club.”

• Wasps FC is an amateur rugby union club formed in 1867 based in West London. The club celebrates 150 years of West London rugby this season. Unique among rugby clubs as the freehold owner of its 23 acre Acton base, it is home to 6 adult teams (male and female), 12 mini and youth teams, and 600 mini and youth players. It is a centre of excellence and a reference for community amateur sport. The club has a good infrastructure to support all levels of rugby including 1x level 4 coach, 2x level 3 coaches, 15x level 2 coaches, 50x level 1 coaches, 15 qualified referees, 20 first aiders. All age groups (male) are amply represented at county level. Recent leavers (male) playing in the Premiership, Championship, throughout the national leagues and abroad in addition many of our youth players represent various Premiership and Championship youth academies.
